HOUSE BY THE VISTULA RIVER — DESIGN

The house occupies an intimate riverside plot of just under 300 m², set on a steep slope at the water’s edge. The site’s challenging topography and mature trees became the starting point for the design.

The building was carefully integrated into the existing landscape to limit earthworks, preserve the natural slope and minimise tree removal. Nature is not treated merely as a backdrop to the architecture, but as an active part of it. In summer, the canopies of the deciduous trees protect the interiors from excessive heat; in winter, once the leaves have fallen, they allow sunlight to reach deeper into the house. The green roof further integrates the building with its surroundings while supporting rainwater retention.

Designed for a family of three, the house provides a high level of everyday comfort despite its compact size. A clear functional layout separates the living and private areas. The open, generously proportioned living space contrasts with the more intimate private quarters, defined by lower ceilings and smaller window openings. This distinction is further articulated through the choice of structural and finishing materials, carefully selected to anchor the architecture within its local context.
